When Callaway introduced Hex Aerodynamics on their higher-end balls, many wondered how long it would be before this technological advancement made its way to the Warbird. The wait is finally over and it has paid off to be patient.
The new Warbird Plus is a two-piece ball with a polybutadiene core for big time length off the tee. The high resiliency rubber formulation has a softer feel than previous Warbirds and provides a noticeable difference in distance. The outer cover is made of a durable ionomer polymer that is found on most balls on the market, but the key difference is the dimple pattern and shape. Previous Warbirds had a standard circular dimple shape and reasonable depth. The new covers feature hexagonal shapes, which produce what Callaway calls, Hex Aerodynamics. This hexagonal pattern of dimples has now been put on all of Callaway’s golf balls.

The basic concept behind the hexagonal shape of the dimples is that they produce more coverage over the entire ball and help to reduce drag by eliminating the seam. The coverage on most balls on the market is around 86%, however, Callaway claims that the hexagonal shape of its dimples provides 100% coverage. The dimples, themselves, feature a sub-hex design that has six hexagonal depressions, which help to create more lift. The cover is .050 thick and has a hardness of 63D. Because of the depth of the dimples, the Callaway Warbird Plus flies off the tee and provides excellent trajectory and distance.
Overall, the Warbird is as venerable of a golf partner as one will find. For the price, it’s a wonderfully playable ball and will provide long-lasting service for anyone who uses it.
