Tour ix Golf Balls

Tour ix advantages: Callaway Tour ix gives maximum distance and maintains complete control through extensive engineering.

Callaway claims that the Tour ix golf ball is the longest tour ball they’ve ever made. Many would be hard pressed to disagree. The technology used in the Tour ix is cutting edge and features some of the most innovative construction techniques available on the market.

The Tour ix features a dual core made up of a soft, low-density inner core and tungsten-infused outer core. The concept is simple. When a driver strikes the ball, the moment of inertia is powerful enough that the energy is transferred through the cover and the outer core and into the inner core.

The inner core deforms enough that the ball, itself, changes shape. This change in shape reduces the spin coming off the tee and allows the ball to fly much farther. On shorter shots using irons or wedges, the outer core absorbs the force of the strike, but because it is of a higher density, it maintains the ball's shape, which allows the club head to place more spin on the ball. More spin equals more control when trying to stick the ball on the green. The mantle layer on the Tour ix works together with the outer core to help maintain the shape of the ball, as well.

The final component in the Tour ix’s four-piece construction is the thermoset urethane cover. Thermoset urethane is produced by a chemical reaction that occurs between polymers when they are injected into the mold. Using a process called Reaction Injection Molding, Callaway has found a way to produce a very thin cover that is consistent in thickness around the entire ball. The dimple shape on this ball is also of consequence. Unlike most balls, the Tour ix utilises hexagonal dimples, rather than round dimples. This provides maximum coverage over the entire ball and eliminates the seam of the ball entirely. By eliminating the seam, the Tour ix has much less drag than other balls on the market.
