PTS Carry Golf Balls
Titleist PTS Carry advantages: greater carry and loft thanks to its sweet dimples.
The PTS Carry has hit the market with over 30 years of tradition and quality, all wrapped into one ball that very nearly defies gravity. Let’s start on the inside. The soft, low density, polybutadiene core provides longer distance from the tee or the fairway. The cover is the next aerodynamic advancement. Made from a material Titleist calls Surlyn®, the cover gives the ball a softer feel against the head of the club at impact and provides greater spin. The resulting lift because of this is unbelievable.
While we’re still talking about the cover, let’s take a look at the dimples. Most golf balls contain between 300 and 500 dimples that are of various sizes and depths. These dimples are what helps the ball’s trajectory, lift and drag. Titleist comes in with a measly 252 total dimples. They’re big and shallow and each one of them acts like the underside of an airplane wing. It’s amazing that it doesn’t just fly off the tee without being struck.
Finally, as with all of the PTS golf balls by Titleist, there’s a staggered wave parting line. In most balls, this is a straight line that circumvents the ball around its equator. Not on the PTS. The parting line on the PTS follows the edges of the dimples and creates a wave pattern around the ball. Now, obviously, it’s an aerodynamics thing, but a straight parting line can be a weak point in a ball’s flight because it increases drag. With the PTS, the wavelike pattern actually helps decrease drag.
This ball is a pleasure to hit and gets more frequent flyer miles than David Beckham.
