The Titleist Pro V1 has been the standard for both professional golfers and amateur golfers for years, but now Titleist has gone and changed this ball. If you’re like most people, you’re probably asking, “Why on earth fix something if it hasn’t been broken?” The answer is quite simple. You change it if you can improve it and Titleist has done just that.

The first thing I noticed about this ball was that the feel was a bit softer off the tee than the Pro V1x. This contributed to a greater distance even though my club head velocity isn’t nearly as fast as someone’s in the amateur or professional ranks. The biggest contributors to this, besides the core, are the amount of dimples this ball has and the staggered wave parting line. The parting line, which is straight on most balls, helps reduce drag and it enables the manufacturer to maximize the dimple coverage. For golfers, like myself, this means more loft and better distance.
Once you get this ball on the green, though, it acts like a firmer ball. I noticed right away the feel off my putter was nice and firm, not “spongy” like it is with some of the single core balls. This one element seemed to contribute to better control and a bit more accuracy. So, if you’re short game needs an enhancement, this ball might help.
