The core of the Callaway Big Bertha Diablo is made up of a proprietary polybutadiene rubber formulation that adds super resiliency to the ball’s shape. Regardless of swing speed, the ball deforms enough at impact that it reduces spin speed. This forces the ball to fly in a straighter trajectory off the tee. The difference between this ball and other balls that have lower spin rates is the resiliency factor. Because of this, the ball regains its shape quickly enough that drag is reduced, which increases distance. The final touch on this core is its softness. With a core this soft, the feel on this ball is very good on each shot.
The soft cover of the Diablo is an ionomer polymer that adds to the overall softness of the ball, but also maintains durability. Probably the most important advancement on this ball is the Hex Aerodynamics that Callaway has used to replace the standard circular dimples. Each dimple is hexagonal in shape and the depth of each of these hexagons is created by a sub-hex pattern that responds to the air rushing around it in flight by increasing lift. Another benefit of the hexagonal pattern of dimples is the elimination of the seam around the ball. By creating a seamless ball, Callaway has provided another way to eliminate as much drag as possible.
